As you may know every UK owned Small Commercial Vessel that has a load line length of under 24 metres and carries no more than 12 passengers must comply with the relevant Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Codes of Practice and be issued with certificates by an Authorised Certifying Authority. Ben Sutcliffe-Davies is Member of the YDSA and a level one CA surveyor for the YDSA. He undertakes coding inspections in South Wales and further afield as required. Ben regularly undertakes inspections in Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff and Milford Haven.
If you wish to charter your boat or use it commercially, you must comply with the Codes of Practice. This includes occasional commercial use as well as permanent use and also includes boats such as sport fishing boats, RIBs used for rides for the public, boats taking workers out to wind farms and oil rigs, etc.
Ben is able to undertake the required compliance inspections on several different Codes of Practice that cover:
Once accepted there is a five year cycle that is subject to annual renewals and will require additional surveys to be performed depending on the frequency of which Code of Practice the craft was coded on and the nature of your boat’s operations.
Ben is always pleased to discuss your new or arrange the transferring of your existing coded vessel to the YDSA CA.
